5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Jungfrau Region

#1 THE STAUBBACHFALL IS NOT THE HIGHEST WATERFALL IN THE JUNGFRAU REGION

Even though the Staubbachfall in Lauterbrunnen is the most popular waterfall in the Jungfrau Region, it’s not the highest one. The highest waterfall in the Jungfrau Region and actually in all of Switzerland is the Mürrenbachfall (also in the Lauterbrunnenvalley) with 417 meters, whereas the Staubbachfall is «only» 297 meters.

#2 THE SECOND MOST POPULAR WATERFALL IN THE JUNGFRAU REGION IS THE REICHENBACHFALL NEAR MEIRINGEN

The Reichenbachfall is where Sherlock Holmes had it’s final fight and fell into the depths of the Waterfall at the end of «The Final Problem». Read more about this here.

#3 THE HIGHEST POINT IN THE JUNGFRAU REGION

The highest point in the Jungfrau Region ist the summit of the Jungfrau, which is at 4158 meters above sea level.

#4 IT TOOK 16 INSTEAD OF 7 YEARS TO BUILD THE RAILWAY TO THE JUNGFRAUJOCH – TOP OF EUROPE

The construction of the Jungfrau Railway began on the 21st of July 1896 after a lot of power cuts, fincancing problems,hard working conditions and many more it ended on the 1st of august 1912. Read more about the building of the Jungfrau Railway here.

#5 SKIING WAS INVENTED IN NORWAY BUT MÜRREN IS ACTUALLY KNOW AS THE «BIRTHPLACE OF SNOW SPORTS»
