From Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg, the trail leads along the white Lütschine and past the Trümmelbach Falls, considered the largest underground waterfalls in Europe. The alpine topography naturally offers little space for Nordic cross-country skiing. Nevertheless, there is a cross-country trail between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg at the bottom of the valley. And it is spectacular: the path between the two mountain villages is lined with 72 waterfalls. The route always leads along the White Lütschine, past the icy cascades.
One highlight is the Trümmelbach Falls (open from April-November), which you glide past in a loop. The name describes the sometimes loud drumming of these largest underground waterfalls in Europe. Somewhat quieter in winter because of the ice, the Trümmelbach drains the glacier walls of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Shortly before the finish, the Mürrenbach Falls are passed. It holds another record: the water masses plunge in five cascades over 417 metres into the depths. It is thus the highest waterfall in Switzerland.
The trail leads to Stechelberg and back to Lauterbrunnen. The end of the valley is a large nature reserve and is part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. Stechelberg is the starting point for various high-mountain tours.

Getting There
Public transport
Thanks to its central location in Europe, Switzerland is served by international trains from over 12 countries. Within Switzerland, Intercity trains run from Basel and Lucerne directly to the Jungfrau Region. Travellers from Zurich change trains in Bern. The trains run every half hour.
The journey on the blue and yellow Bernese Oberland Bahn (BOB) train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen takes 20 minutes. We board the front part of the train, as it splits in Zweilütschinen. Those who get on at the back travel to Grindelwald.
Getting there
From Basel and Geneva, the fastest route to the Jungfrau Region is via Bern. From Zurich, the route via Lucerne and the Brünig Pass is recommended. The pass is open all year round.
From the south, travel to the Jungfrau Region via the Grimsel or Susten Pass. Both passes are only open in summer. An alternative is the Simplon Pass with subsequent car transport through the Lötschberg tunnel.
The journey from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen takes about 20 minutes.
There is a multi-storey car park directly below Lauterbrunnen station. Alternatively, the car park at the Lauterbrunnen church can be used.
