Swiss Historic Hotels

Jungfrau Region's Blogbuster Series / Nr. 49

Back to the future. Not at all. But we think that Marty McFly would also have liked to stay in these houses.

Authentic, historic hotels and restaurants that value hospitality and service quality. Since 2004, the label Swiss Historic Hotels unites exactly such establishments to a constantly growing network and this way allows guests an unforgettable journey through time in all regions of Switzerland. There are also 4 hotels in the Jungfrau Region, which may adorn themselves with this label:

#1 Hotel Regina, Mürren

The over 100-year-old traditional house is located in the middle of the village center of Mürren - 1650 meters above sea level, far away from the hectic hustle and bustle. The magnificent dining room, the sun terrace and the spacious veranda offer a breathtaking view of the mountain panorama. The house has retained its charm after all these years.

#2 Hotel Bellevue des Alpes, Kleine Scheidegg

One of the last grand hotels of the 19th century. In the midst of alpine beauty above Grindelwald and Wengen, namely on the Kleine Scheidegg, lies this special house. As the center of the skiing and hiking region, this place is also a direct starting point to the Jungfraujoch. Even today, the hotel is still run as a family business with a sense of tradition.

Up here, by the way, you are directly below the notorious Eiger North Face - scenes from the 2008 film "North Face", the dramatic first ascent attempt, were also filmed in the Bellevue des Alpes.

#3 Hotel Falken, Wengen

Hotel Falken was built in Wengen in 1895, on a raised hill with a fantastic view of the Jungfrau and the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Outside and inside the house there are still many original details to be found and it is the only intact hotel from the beginnings of tourism in the village.

Wengen has always been car-free, by the way. The only vehicles (mostly small or electric) that are allowed in Wengen belong to the doctor, the hotels and other businesses that need transportation.

#4 Grimsel Hospiz, Haslital

From a hostel for poor hikers and a former miners' residence, a very tasteful hotel for aesthetes and nature lovers has been created here on the Grimsel. Especially in winter, the Alpine Hotel becomes a very special oasis of peace - deep in the snow, the historic house is enthroned amidst an unspoiled landscape and awaits its guests.

Well, got the desire for a journey into the past? Then come by and experience it - even works without a DeLorean.
