Who invented skis? The Swiss? No, unfortunately not. Let’s be honest. In this case, it wasn’t us. We imported the two wooden slats with bindings from the north. Nothing wrong with that. Now skis are here to stay – so anyone can come to the skiing areas of the Bernese Oberland and the Jungfrau Region and let loose.
Jungfrau Ski Region
A winter wonderland
The Jungfrau Ski Region will have you under its spell as soon as you arrive. This is where the skiing areas of the Bernese Oberland merge into a unique winter wonderland for everyone who loves the snow. There’s something to suit every skier and snowboarder here, with various skiing areas to choose from: Grindelwald-Wengen, Grindelwald-First, Mürren-Schilthorn and Meiringen-Hasliberg. The Jungfrau Ski Region is as high as 2,970 metres above sea level in places and spans more than 275 kilometres of slopes. The Jungfrau Ski Region has plenty of opportunities for adventurous winter sports enthusiasts to let off steam with gentle powder slopes, steep slopes and numerous snow parks and fun parks. And for the adrenaline junkies among us: some ski resorts in the Jungfrau Ski Region even have racing runs and ski cross parks.
Skiing area
Grindelwald-Wengen
In the Grindelwald-Wengen skiing area, the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks tower around you like ice giants. The scenery is truly unique. Those with energy to burn can let off steam on the 103 kilometres of slopes here. Since most of the runs here are red runs, the skiing area in the Bernese Oberland is particularly suitable for advanced skiers. Experienced skiers can also race down the world-famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill run. Beginners won’t miss out though: there is a long blue descent from the mountain station to Brandegg via Kleine Scheidegg.
Skiing area
Mürren-Schilthorn
Mürren-Schilthorn is the highest skiing area in the Bernese Oberland. This is precisely where James Bond made a daring descent while “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. The film was shot here around 50 years ago. Both beginners and professionals can put their skills to the test here on 56 kilometres of slopes.
Skiing area
Meiringen-Hasliberg
The Meiringen-Hasliberg skiing area has around 60 km of slopes, with something for all ability levels. The ski race centre is a particularly special feature here. It provides a permanent racing and training slope for national and regional associations, training groups and ski clubs. However, Meiringen-Hasliberg isn’t just for experienced skiers: in Skihäsliland, beginners can also hone their skills without any hassle or stress.
Skiing area
Grindelwald-First
Grindelwald-First is great for skiers who love the sun. It’s the sunniest skiing area in the Jungfrau Region and boasts 56 kilometres of slopes. It also links up with the Grindelwald-Wengen skiing area. One of the highlights of this ski resort in the Bernese Oberland is the snow park for freestylers, which has runs for both beginners and pros. The ski cross course is also a must for visitors to Grindelwald-First. An injection of pure adrenaline!
Correct behaviour on the slope
