Waterfalls
In the valley of 72 waterfalls
The Lauterbrunnen Valley is considered the epitome of alpine water landscapes. Known as the valley of 72 waterfalls, it delights visitors with its unique concentration of natural cascades plunging down the rock faces into the valley. The 297-metre-high Staubbach Falls are the symbol of Lauterbrunnen – and the highest free-falling waterfall in Switzerland.

The true home of the hobbits
In 1911, the 19-year-old J.R.R. Tolkien hiked through the Swiss Alps – and of course through Lauterbrunnen Valley. It’s a little-known fact that he found his inspiration for the landscape in “The Lord of the Rings” here.
