Sledging

The Jungfrau Region has over 20 sledging runs for you to try. You can also try riding through the snow-covered landscape on a velogemel – a Grindelwald invention. It’s a wooden frame with two runners – a sledge modelled after the bicycle. Have fun!

Sledging run

Sulwald-Isenfluh-Lauterbrunnen

A great experience for young and old alike: grab your sledge (or go hire one) and then hop on the aerial cableway from Isenfluh to Sulwald. Stop to warm up a bit at the Sulwald-Stübli and enjoy the views of the magical winter landscape there. Now you’re ready to go sledging! Your sledge will glide effortlessly along the forest track (4 km) to Isenfluh. If conditions are good, you can even sledge down to Lauterbrunnen via the old Isenfluh track (3.5 km) into the valley.

Sledging run

Allmendhubel - Mürren

What is now the bob sled run featured in the James Bond film “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” in 1969. But you won’t have to worry about any baddies chasing you here – just enjoy sledging peacefully through the beautiful mountain scenery. The sledging run starts at the mountain station of the Allemndhubel funicular railway, which departs from the centre of Mürren. Alternatively, you can also walk to the start. After you’ve had your fill of the gorgeous views, take the sledging run, which slopes evenly downhill through the Blumental and snow-covered forests to the village and the bottom station of the Allmendhubel funicular railway. It’s an unforgettable experience for all ages.

Sledging run

Männlichen - Holenstein

The Männlichen offers thrilling sledging runs in addition to impressive views. One of these great runs starts at the mountain station. It descends over 1,000 metres in elevation to the Holenstein middle station in the direction of Grindelwald. As you cruise down the mountain, you have a great view of the Grindelwaldtal and the mountain range from the Eiger to the Wetterhorn. You can take the gondola cableway back up to the summit and sledge down the run again as often as you like. If there’s enough snow, you can even sledge all the way down to the Grindelwald bottom station.

Night sledging

SLEDGE HIRE

No sledge? No problem!

Visiting the Jungfrau Region but don’t have a sledge with you? No worries! These sports shops will lend you one for a small fee. Alternatively, you can check in advance if sledges are available for hire where you are going.

Last but not least

Safety first

Sledging doesn’t require any particular prior experience. It’s fun for all ages. However, you do need the proper equipment. You’ll need sturdy waterproof shoes, warm, waterproof clothing, gloves and a hat. We also strongly recommend wearing a helmet.

Tip: One thing you don’t need to worry about taking with you is food and drink, as there are numerous mountain huts where you can warm up, drink tea and eat fondue.
